Gladstone Region Childhood Builders came together again in August, in their continued commitment to growing collective understanding of brain health and childhood wellbeing in the region.
The second workshop rounded out the inaugural Gladstone Region Childhood Builders Training Series.
Building upon learnings of brain science and shared language and practice for wellbeing conversations, attendees dived into resilience and its alignment with the six wellbeing areas of the NEST, to embed knowledge across local places, spaces and workforces that support children, young people and families.
Interactive, evidence-based activity used the Resilience Scale model developed by the Palix Foundation (Alberta Family Wellness Initiative) to illustrate how experiences in the early years shapes brain architecture, resilience and lifelong health.
Attendees from across the local early years system, worked together to understand the different positive and negative experiences that a child may have and the environments around them, and developed a Supporting Resilience Plan, drawing on local knowledge and experience, to equip the child and family with the right supports, matched to their individual needs.
Training room walls were covered as attendees mapped local programs available across community using the Resilience Scale and the NEST frameworks.
Gladstone is the first community in Australia to map the local ecosystem in this way.
One practitioner participating reflected that having this level of local program detail available would significantly help them in matching supports to their clients assessed risks and needs.
Participants identified the value that these frameworks could add to the Program Database that Sector are currently developing to improve quality of referrals in proving the right support for families, at the right time.
The Childhood Builders Training Series highlighted the powerful role every person supporting early childhood plays and the importance of supporting front-line roles to maintain good brain health and personal wellbeing to enable them to effectively help and serve others.
Expressions of interest will soon be released to participate in Practitioner Wellbeing Training.
The Childhood Builders Training Series is a collaboration of Gladstone Region engaging in action Together (GRT), Thriving Queensland Kids Partnership, Yiliyapinya Indigenous Corporation and The Queensland Brain Institute at the University of Queensland. This training series is part of a three-year Sector Capacity Building Initiative, designed by local practitioners and supported through a partnership with Rio Tinto, Here for Gladstone.
