Public Speaking Training has boosted the confidence and skills of local Human Service leads to communicate impactful and compelling messages when representing the needs of our community.
During November, participants came together on two occasions, in a small group setting, led by international keynote speaker and experienced local facilitator Anton Guinea.
Public Speaking Training – November 2024
Participants shared their desire to embrace speaking opportunities, to fulfill their roles and share the voice of community through the platforms available to them, but feeling constrained by their own fear of public speaking. Harnessing the mantra ‘Face Everything And Rise’ (FEAR), the training aimed to change mindsets by identifying personal drivers that connect us as individuals to the vision of creating positive long-term wellbeing outcomes for community.
Emerging and seasoned leaders grew capacity and confidence together, as training explored how to prepare and deliver well-crafted messages harnessing the 3 C’s process for impactful presentation – Controlled, Conversational and Credible. The training shared how to enable the audience to relate to the story being shared, by identifying the significance and emotional connection behind the story, and highlighted the importance of a clear call to action to ensure the audience is inspired to act.
Creative presentation techniques and tips were shared, and new ideas were taken away to test and try, with the opportunity provided to be both vulnerable and courageous by practicing pre-planned presentations at the final training event.
Participants reported newfound confidence and comfort with the idea of public speaking as a vehicle to share their knowledge of community needs, whether in front of an audience of external investors or local community stakeholders. Participants shared that the opportunity to learn and practice their skills together in an environment of mutual appreciation and support was valuable and that they left feeling encouraged to leverage future opportunities to use their voice for local benefit.
The training forms part of the Sector Capacity Building Initiative, informed by our local Human Service Sector on priority collective training needs, to enable improved outcomes for our families and children.
